The creative inspiration behind the CV22 ready to wear collection ‘PROTOTYPES’ reaches back to the very origin of British sports kits and tropes of classic menswear, considering the physical aspects; fabrications, design & construction as well as the social narratives roles and rituals, we have taken these elements and re-envisioned them in a contemporary context.

The origin of the sports uniform & playing kit lays in 1800s Rugby. Mary (Penrose) Arnold constructed raw cotton clothing, to provide the first specific uniform for players to change into from their ‘day clothing’ and hence assume their role of sportsman and team member. The dynamic between this fabrication constructing the very first sports uniforms and the prototype sportsmen they clothed and defined informs our development of unique fabrications.

We have created our Prototype as a modern uniform, a collection from raw, unbleached cotton in a monochrome hue of ecru, following the spirit of the cotton colour and construction in those first strips. English Fine Cottons spin Supima yarns for us in an original Victorian cotton mill near Manchester, the spiritual home of the British cotton industry. These threads are then knitted into super soft pique, loopback, jersey and interlock. We cut our garments on the bias, a technique rarely used in classic menswear, to create garments which have a unique combination of classic fit, and super soft comfortable drape.
